 --Talking and Shouting

The first area of gameplay you should learn is how to communicate effectively.  Nexus provides several ways for you to get your point across to other players.  The simplest method of communication is to simply speak outloud.  You accomplish this by typing an apostrophe <'> and then your message, followed by the return key.  You will see a little speech bubble above your character, and the same text in the chat window.  Anyone visible to you on your screen will also see what you have said.  You may also shout by pressing the exclamation key  <SHIFT + !> and then typing your comments.  This is similar to regular speaking except that people several screens away can hear you and your speech balloon is yellow.  You may also see lines of text that are highlighted red.  These are called broadcasts.  All paths learn the ability to broadcast at level 90.  Simply, it allows you to speak your thoughts to the entire town you are currently in.  If you tire of seeing all the broadcasts, press <F6> to shut them off.  Pressing this key again turns broadcasts back on.

 --Whispers

This is all well and good if you are always next to your friends and hunting partners, but what happens if they are far away?  The whisper command allows you to send a message to anyone, regardless of their location (they must be online though).  To use the whisper feature, type a quotation mark <SHIFT + ">.  You will then see a prompt, asking you whom you wish to whisper to.  Type the person's name in (case doesn't matter here, so whispering to QuickFoot, quickfoot, and qUiCkFoOt is all the same thing), press enter, and then type your message, followed by another enter.  The text will show up on that person's screen in blue text.  The program will remember who you have whispered to last, so you do not have to retype the name each time; you will notice on subsequent whispers, that the person you last whispered to is already entered into the text line.  Of course, you can simply type over that name if you wish to whisper to someone else.

NOTE:  There is a special form of whispering you should be aware of.  If you are in a group (grouping is covered in a later section), you may whisper to '!!' (That's two exclamation points).  This allows your whispered comments to be heard by your entire group.

--Blocking Whispers and Ignoring

You may eventually get so popular that the whispers can become annoying.  Sometimes you want to just kick back and relax, and not be bothered by all the troubles of the realm.  To shut off all incoming whispers, press <F5>.  You can still whisper to others, but anyone who tries to whisper to you will receive the message 'They can't hear you.'  Simply pressing <F5> again will turn whispers back on.  If you would like to keep your whispers activated, but there is someone really annoying whispering you constantly, there is an Ignore feature you should make use of.  By pressing <F9>, you are presented with the options: (a)dd, (d)elete, (?).  Tap the 'a' key, and then type the name of the person you wish to ignore.  Your whispers are still functioning, but that person can no longer whisper you!  If you change your mind, simply press <F9> again, tap d for delete, and type the name of the person you wish to receive whispers from again.  The (?) option allows you to see who you are currently ignoring.
