Survival training granted by the Ranger Quotah. We met first at Trapper's Paradise. I always seem to have trouble finding a way across the streams blocking my way in that room. But wet feet and a few minutes later, I found the Ranger, Quotah, and the beginning of our class arriving. Once enough time had passed, waiting on stragglers, we departed and headed to The Wilderness. I personally don't like this parcel of land, to many dangers can lurk unseen. Like the demon black sheep that seems to appear from no where. I speak from experience. Anyway, Our first stop was the mining fields north of the main road leading into Wilderness. We discussed camping in a scenario such as this. What could we find/use to build a fire, to build a shelter. What, if anything, could we find to eat. Snake meat, once butchered, is actually very tasty. Rat, edible, but not nearly as tasty. Once we had explained our thoughts on our camp, Quotah lead us to another area. We stopped momentarily at a small farm, we all agreed that you take only what is needed and no more than that. We continued. A bit of tropical respite, the sand was firm under our feet. The water much to salty to drink. From this situation we were tasked to come up with ways to make the briny water drinkable. So many good ideas came forth. Quotah seemed pleased with our suggestions. Eating was our next task. Someone brought up coconuts, I spoke up with a warning about eating a lot of coconut and it's milk. It's not pleasant. But there were lobsters as well and although no one in our group brought them up, monkeys. Our last stop was the very cold hill country where black bears and white bears dwelled. I was ready to test our new knowledge of fire building. The bears offered a means for our survival. Pelts, though newly skinned and smelled differently than furs that had been treated, but they would keep a person warm and the meat would keep them feed. Water could be obtained from the ice and snow that covered the entire area. This gained water would help our survival as water is a critical substance to have on any trip. Snow could be used to douse our fire when we were ready to break camp. Quotah seemed pleased at this newly patch of survivalists, she smiled as we were dismissed. All in all, I enjoyed my survival training, I learned new things that would assist me in my travels. I learned new things that would save my life. TongChi | |
