~A Journal of the Kingdoms~ VI It is safe to say that it's no secret I'm partial to gamble with the idea of luck being on my side. It could fall either way, the flip of a coin or the roll of die. Usual gatherings at Western Koguryo made for some amusement to pass the time, some came and went. The Fox and I taking time to roll our die for coins. I should have known then my luck wasn't in. Conversation moves to oath and commitment between lovers. Some lost, some exiled, some repelled. Some seeking. The Fox, seeking. An eye roll as I see the direction it might go, already having been approached on such matters by others. Already knowing that some requests are for the convenience. No love. No commitment. Simply to achieve other goals. Some so desperate, they wish you to be someone you are not. A thought crossed my mind "If you could beat me at the Devil's dance, I might, ha ha ha!" Almost as though in my head the Chidoja recalls her own bond, as a result of a dance. I smirked, saying the thought out loud. The Fox is keen, enthusiastic at the idea. The ribbon hadn't done so bad last time...Still stiff from the blood of the Visionary, the Swift and some small contributions from the Kamang from the last Devil's dance. Hesitation. Persuasion. Agreed. Meet at the Dragon's Head. The six sides of a die and it does not fall in my favour. The Fox, unphased by my ribbon. Not bothered by my boot. Unharmed from the spear. A mere bite on the scalp was the only injury to the Fox in their attempt to headbutt me. Defeat. A blessing for now that Blood is messy, unable to do his job without spilling the precious life force everywhere, I would most certainly not survive. So for now, I am in debt. Sealed by the dance of the devil. ~~R | |
