I thought when I came here that I was already proficient with a bow; having already been accustomed to fishing well with crossbows at sea. But the crossbow is easier, though heavier, and more powerful without effort. The bow requires strength, good stance and muscle memory, and that is only the very surface of the skill required. Archery requires instinct; an assessment of your foe, whether an animal or an opponent. Over time I have come to understand the tactics here, and they will vary widely each time. An animal may require you to be silent and stealthy, an opponent in a duel or Elixir will require you think and move quickly. Archery requires discipline; put it down for too long and you will be slow and fall to your competition. The bow requires consistency. Archery requires focus; Good co-ordination will always be favourable but with this, the ability to remain calm under pressure. When I first entered tournaments, my heart would pound crazy in my chest; this only fuelling my mistakes as I scrambled to make my next move. Now, my heartbeats remain steady as I take my shots. Whilst I consider that I have mastered archery, I take into account that this will continue whilst I continue to keep the bow in my hand. Masters do not remain without practice. ~Rori | |
