Subject :I-Ching Reading for Pond
Date :7/26

In my ongoing studies under the Divine Order and my amazing guide, teacher, and mentor - LawAndOrder, I frequent Kugnae's library. I've become well acquainted with the Librarian Pond. We've exchanged pleasantries and other small talk. He's a very affable gentleman and seems impressed by the powers of prophecy that the Diviners possess. In all fairness, he seems impressed by all the paths and their abilities. He seems like a true scholar of the world and a perfect person to be the Kugnae Librarian.

I've talked to him about my fortune telling abilities. He's usually excited to watch me practice though hasn't ever asked me to do a reading for him. I've asked him many times if he'd like a reading but he always laugh it off about knowing too much about the future. I kept persisting but he would usually remember some task that he had to do, or someone would come in looking to redeem pirate coins.

This gave me a thought and I asked him about how many people come in to use the library to study or read instead of just with concerns about pirate coins. His brow furrowed about this and he explained that he is disappointed and saddened that people don't seem to be reading as much as they used to. He hardly has any patrons. Mainly just the people who pop in for the pirate coins and then immediately leave. He then meekly asked if I had the time maybe that is something I could do a reading for. I asked him for more specifics since he didn't really ask a question and readings only really work if there's a question to focus on. Finally, he asked "What will it take to get people back in the Library to read?" And of course, as soon as he asked me, he remembered something he had to do all of a sudden and wandered off instead of watching me conduct the reading.

This seemed like a great question to consult the I'Ching for and that is something I need to practice. I used a few simple coins. I carefully flipped each while focusing on the question at hand. I recorded the results forming the Yin and Yang lines of each Trigram that makes up each Hexagram of the I'Ching. I noted the future lines, which I had only one in this instance.

   - -         - -
  --- (F)     - -
  ---         ---

  ---         ---
  ---         ---
  - -         - -

I consulted the I'Ching to interpret the results.

For the first Hexagram- Ta Kuo. Exceeding what is Great; flexibility, extraordinary developments, caution. Pond over Wind (wood); a single tree grows in the middle of the Pond. Expect some difficulties, but maintain the ability to be flexible and great success will happen. Be cautious but trust your instincts. Extraordinary times require extraordinary measures.

For the second Hexagram - Heng. Persistence; constancy, commitment, endurance. Thunder over Wind; Eldest son and Eldest daughter in an enduring relationship. Single-minded devotion to a task will bring good fortune. Persevere in your intended path and you will reach your goal. Focus on the results, not just the task at hand. Advantage in any direction. Be persistent. Endure.

Satisfied with my work, I was able to get Pond's attention again and showed him the results that I got. It seems that the I'Ching doesn't think he needs to do anything special. He just needs to keep enduring in his day to day tasks. He is a good Librarian as long as he keeps the shelves clean and well-stocked with books - old and new, staying relevant to the trends while keeping the classics and histories. Patronage may drop more, even from those seeking to redeem Pirate Coins but he shouldn't change what he does. The current drop in readership is just part of the current state of events in the kingdoms. In time, they will return.

He chuckled softly and said he didn't need the I'Ching to tell him that necessarily but it is reassuring that he doesn't have to change anything to bring people back eventually.
