I have studied with the Druids off and on for some time now. Their view of the world makes sense to me. The natural world that is all around us is a sacred space. Any one who spends time in the forests, fields, and wild places away from the cities and where people have made their presence known will quickly feel a sense of peace and calm that only nature can provide. In my studies with the Druids, I have aligned myself with the Air element as it reflects who I am. Smart. Reasonable. Adaptable. Adventurous. Resourceful. The wind blows. We breathe in and out. Air is all around us. I have also devoted myself to the fox with the aid of the Druids. The fox is a clever and adaptable creature. Quick and sly, it observes without being seen but also makes time for play. As a Ranger, I feel a special bond with all of nature and its creatures. Dedicating myself to Cernunnos only makes sense in my progression through life. As god of the hunt, animals, fertility, fighters, nature, commerce, love and the underworld, Cernunnos affects many major areas of my life, especially the parts of my life that are most important to me. Many may think it odd that a person who loves nature as much as I am also enjoys a thrilling hunt. The fact that the same god represents and blesses both may come as an even bigger surprise. The balance of nature requires this though. A hunt properly undertaken helps animal populations thrives. It removes excess animals that may be a part of a herd. The hunted animals are often the oldest or weakest. Removing them from their herd only strengthens the herd. The wanton and reckless slaughter of animals with no specific purpose other than perverse enjoyment in which the carcasses are left to rot where they fall is not hunting. As a Ranger, I am always alert for such behavior and do whatever needs to be done to put an immediate stop to it. I consider myself a guardian of the natural world for this reason. With the blessing of Cernunnos may I always be able to stop wanton slaughter with a strong bow, quick feet and sharp senses. May I always be victorious in the battles to protect nature and ensure that I respect the balance of the natural world.
