Many different traits have been assigned to the Zodiac animals, which many associate themselves with. Though this has never been something I have closely considered, it was an opportunity to learn more about these representations and how they may apply to me. I began by not only reading about their individual qualities but also about the race that was born into history. An enjoyable tale, it showcased many of the attributes we mortals experience during our lives. Patience, humility, ambition, tenacity, versatility, honor, and trust are some of the characteristics shown. Though I think all of us have these qualities in varying amounts, I also believe that we will each resonate with one more than the others, both in Zodiac and in Element. For me, this was Water and Dragon. During the race, I cared not that the dragon had the potential to be first with his strength and flight, but rather that the dragon prioritized his promise to another rather than a victory for himself. Knowing you have the ability to win, yet choosing something that will benefit others at the cost of that vicroty, is a very noble attribute, and I want to strive to make this same choice whenever I am able. As for the element, this was a very easy choice for me. Water is both fluid and rigid. It can shape to what it is carried in, or it can break it. Dousing fire, nurturing wood, and harmony with wind, water holds both transparency and mystery. In our youth we are quick to act, but as we age and gain wisdom, we learn to temper our reactions with patience and understanding. You do not lose the ability to get angry just because you wait to do so, nor do you show weakness with self-control. Dragon and Water together represent a strength and humility grown in wisdom and nurtured by time. They remind me of who I am and who I desire to continue being. ~GokouB | |
