I set out into the woodlands with my guide for a scouting trip to learn more about foraging. We first headed Northeast to the mining fields where I was tasked with gathering five Snake meat and two rat meat. While searching the area, I came across something I never expected to see. A group of rats had ganged up on a Rock snake! I stopped for a moment to watch the battle before continuing with my task. From there we made our way toward the mountain goats and sheep to the South, where I was told to collect five wool and to be careful of the Black sheep. I soon found the elusive and terrifying sheep, set a trap and lured it in. I quickly dispatched the Black sheep and made the area safe again. We continued on to the farming fields, which I hear are some of the best farmland in the kingdom. There were rabbits, squirrels and snakes everywhere as well as a lonely Rogue, farming away. The snakes didn't seem too happy about us being there, as I was attacked by two of them while trying to take notes. It may be a dangerous place, but there is no shortage of useful resources to be found there, so I can understand why people make use of it. Our scouting trip eventually took us to the Northwestern beaches of the woodlands. We found lobsters along the shore and several rabid beach monkeys, which attacked us more than once. It wasnt a good place to take a nap for sure. There is also a nearby cave filled with even more dangerous creatures. The sand flies and lobsters inside were capable of blinding and even burning travelers seeking the riches within. We did not venture into this cave as it was far too dangerous without a proper group. All together, the woodlands proved to be a place full of resources but also a lot of danger. Between the mining fields, sheep, farmland and beaches, there was always something useful to gather and something else trying to kill us. It was a good scouting trip and another reminder that as a Ranger, you have to stay aware of your surroundings because you never really know what you are going to find. -Gad | |
