<b>Camouflage Field Lecture Report During my field lecture today, I learned that camouflage is not simply about finding a place to hide. I need to think about how I can avoid being noticed through sight, sound, and movement. For sight, I learned to pay more attention to what is around me before choosing a hiding spot. Trees, bushes, shadows, and uneven terrain can all help me blend into the environment. I also learned that something that looks like good cover at first might not actually be a good location if I can easily be spotted from another direction. With sound, I learned that even the best hiding place won't help me if I am making too much noise. Dry leaves, branches, and loose rocks can easily give away my position. I need to slow down, watch where I step, and listen to the sounds around me. Movement was another important lesson. Even when I am well hidden, sudden or unnecessary movement can draw attention to me. Sometimes the best thing I can do is simply stay still and be patient. The biggest thing I took away from the lesson is that I need to think about all three senses together. A good camouflage position should allow me to blend in visually, stay quiet, and move only when necessary.I think these skills will be especially useful to me as a Ranger because they will help me become more observant and patient. I want to practice looking at an area from different perspectives and thinking about how easily I could be detected before deciding where to position myself. To me, good camouflage is about working with the environment rather than simply hiding from it. ~Azabu | |
